Hello ^^
Today, while cleaning out my closet, I found one of my favourite JSK's by Baby the Stars Shine Bright.
I love the print ( Alice is Sleeping), but I haven't worn it in years.
I always thought that the skirt was a little bit short. Lately I have been more into longer skirts, that is, at least knee lenght or over the knee.
So, this gorgeous JSK ended up somewhere hidden between all my other skirts and dresses until I rediscovered it this morning.
So, on an impulse I decided to make it into a skirt. The reason that the skirt appeared so short was that the bodice was to short on me, so the skirt sat to high on my waist. By taking the bodice away, the skirt would sit lower and give more lenght.
So after scaring my friend with this idea, I set myself to it.
After some looking around in my cupboards, I found the waist ties that I could use to make a waist band for the skirt (I never use waist ties because they are uncomfortable when I sit in my car. So I have a big box filled with all kinds of waist ties from Lolita skirts and dresses)
So, of course I started by parting the top from the bottom:
Poor dressy
After this I cut the button holes from the waist ties:
I sewed them together at the smallest end.
Then I ironed interfacing in it that is specially made for waist bands.
See, there is a nice waist band ^^
Then I gathered the fabric of the skirt so it was the same measurement as the waist band. And then pinned the it to the skirt, and sewed it on.
All ready for sewing
After that it was time to put the zipper in place.
When that was all finished, I folded and ironed the waist band in place and sewed it secure to the skirt. Now this is always a little tricky, because this type of waist bands tends to get messy. But when you use enough pins all around, it should not be a problem.
And that was it.
There, all finished
Now there is one more problem, I have to do something with the left overs. I am thinking of using the bows from the bodice for hair clips, or some other accessory that needs a bow on it. There is also some left over fabric from the waist ties and of course the lace from the bodice. Maybe I just keep everything intact in case I want it to be a dress again. Who knows..
Thank you for reading, see you next time
